Our Guide to Using a Pushchair in Snow

When the snow starts to fall, life doesn’t just stop — especially for parents with little ones. Whether it’s a trip to the shops, a stroll through the park, or simply getting some fresh air, venturing out with your baby is often necessary. But how do you manage with a pushchair in the snow? If you live in areas prone to snowfall, like Scotland or the north of the UK, it’s crucial to know how to navigate snowy weather while keeping your baby safe and warm.

Can You Use a Pushchair in the Snow?

Yes, you can! The answer depends on the model. All iCandy pushchairs are designed with wheels that can handle snowy conditions, but some models are better suited for deeper snow. For example, the iCandy Peach 7 All-Terrain is specifically designed for snow, featuring larger wheels, excellent suspension, and weather-resistant fabrics. Choosing a pushchair tailored for snowy conditions can make all the difference. What Are the Best Pushchairs for Snow?

When picking the best stroller in snow, look for sturdy, multi-terrain wheels and strong frame construction. iCandy’s range of pushchairs, for example, includes designs with large wheels and excellent suspension systems, ideal for more challenging terrain like snow. These features ensure stability and ease of movement even on slippery surfaces.

Tips and Advice from Our Customers

We spoke to parents from Scotland and northern parts of the UK, who shared their top tips for using a stroller in snow. Many highlighted the importance of large wheels and sturdy frames, as these offer better control on slippery surfaces. Others emphasised the need to keep babies warm, suggesting thermal layers for added protection.

“I’ve used my iCandy Peach 7 for years, and it handles really well in the snow. The large wheels and suspension make a big difference, and my little one stays warm with the footmuff and raincover. ”

Claire from Inverness said

"It snows regularly in the winter here in Aberdeen - we go out in it all the time! Push, don't pull: It's easier to push the stroller forward, as pulling can be awkward and cause the wheels to drag. Also, keep a steady pace: Slow, controlled movement is key to avoiding slips and falls.”

How to Keep Your Baby Warm in a Stroller During Winter

One of the most common concerns is, "What should baby wear in a stroller in winter?" Dressing your baby in layers is essential, as it traps heat better than one thick garment.

iCandy’s range of cosy footmuffs have been designed to coordinate effortlessly and saves parents from having to buy a plethora of accessories. The seat liner is fully reversible, boasting a soft touch fleece on one side and cooler textured fabric suitable for summer on the other. During the colder months, a front section can be added to the seat liner to create the footmuff, this can then be removed during the summer to act as the seat liner.

Layer up: Always ensure your baby has plenty of layers. Start with a base layer, such as a onesie, and add warm clothing like fleece and a waterproof outer layer.

Don't forget extremities: Gloves, a hat, and warm socks are essential for keeping tiny hands, heads, and feet toasty.
